Is Polygamy next in the United States?

by Jeff Lightsy Jr.

The Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states was a monumental moment in American history. But, did this open the door and allow another issue to come to the forfront?

Polygamy by definition is the state of marriage to many spouses. Basically marriage between three or more partners. The argument made by folks that are for polygamy is that of marriage equality. Polygamist will argue that once upon a time interracial marriage was once illegal in America and that Americans should be allowed to make the decision of how many people they can be married to.

But could this ever really become legal in the United States? The short answer to this is no, traditionalist would never allow this to happen in this country of ours. Polygamy is illegal in all 50 states, but in some this practice is also a felony.

The Democratic party is full of progressive thinkers, but I don’t believe that they are even willing to push forward this agenda. Then again you never know how the mindset of our country will change in the years to come. We have seen how gay rights have evolved in as little as 10 years.
