The Republican GOP is better than Reality TV

by Jeff Lightsy Jr.

One thing that we know about the race for the 2016 presidential election is that it will be interesting. Especially on the Republican side of things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will keep things interesting on the Democrat side. But it will fall in comparison to one Donald Trump and the entertainment he can provide.

Lets call it what it is, the Republican GOP is a circus. With 16 candidates shows the American how desperate this party is to take back office. Not to mention the ring leader of this circus is billionaire Donald Trump. When Trump first announced that he was running for president I thought it was laughable. I soon found out Trump wasn’t joking and the support he has now garnered is very serious. He is currently leading the polls and is the early favorite to win the Republican nomination. What is even more surprising than that is the way he is doing it. Making outlandish remarks about the Mexican people and even slandering his own political party mates. He has spoken out about how he believes Jeb Bush is too “soft” to be president, and has guarenteed a victory of the Republican nomination.

Despite having made some outrageous remarks, particularly those about the Mexican race, how is it that Trump is winning? Well, to be honest a lot of radical republicans believe every word that he is saying. I live in the state of Kentucky, and although we may not be as bad as a Mississippi when it comes to our conservative beliefs as an overall state, but we are pretty conservative. And by the looks of things this is what the Republican people want to hear. Trump is saying all the things that most Republican candidates are afraid to say. Not saying that they all agree with him, but even if they did they would not reiterate it because of the backlash they would receive.

As bad as some members of the Republican party may not like Donald Trump, they actually need to keep him happy. Trump has entertained the idea of running for president as an independent. If this were to happen the Republican party would ultimately be handing the presidency back to the Democrats. This is caused by Trump pulling over enough votes from the Republican nomination to give the Democrats the easy win. One thing is for sure, if you like reality television, you will keep up with the Republican GOP.
