AFC Divisional Round Preview

by Jeff Lightsy Jr.

The best weekend in football is finally upon us. Here I am previewing the AFC divisional round playoff games. In the AFC the match-ups include the Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Denver Broncos. And on the other side the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New England Patriots.

In the Broncos/Steelers match up brings in a lot of headlines. Mainly on the side of the Pittsburgh Steelers. After their crazy win up in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh left the game pretty banged up. Starting QB Ben Rothlisberger has a right shoulder injury so he will not be 100% and All-Pro WR Antonio Brown suffered a concussion in that game. It is unknown if he will even play in this game.

Denver Broncos v Houston TexansFor Denver this marks the return of Peyton Manning. Brock Osweiler had started the previous 6 games while Manning recovered from various injuries. Now, with the playoffs here the Broncos will rely on their future Hall of famer to lead them to victory over the Steelers.

PREDICTION – I believe that Pittsburgh simply have  to many injuries on the offensive side of the ball. Even if Brown and Big Ben play they clearly will not be 100%. With that being said Denver boast one of the leagues best defenses and I believe that Peyton Manning will have just enough to beat Pittsburgh 24-14.

On the other side of the bracket the Chiefs will head up to Foxborough to take on the Patriots. The last time Kansas City visited the Pats at their place in 2014, they put a beat down on them to a score of 41-14. None of us expect that to happen again, but it is worth noting.

The Patriots come into the game off of their bye week seemingly focused as always. All-Pro TE Rob Gronkowski missed a few days of practice but he is expected to be ready for the game. Tom Brady comes into this game with 21 playoff wins to only 8 losses. So we all know he is ready for this game.

The Chiefs on the other hand are riding an 11 game winning streak coming into this game. This includes their 30-0 blowout victory over the Houston Texans. This is the hottest team in the entire league and they will get a chance to dethrone the NFL’s Golden Boy for a spot in the AFC Championship game.

NFL: Cincinnati Bengals at New England PatriotsPREDICTION – This will be a really good game. I like the Chiefs defense A LOT! But does their offense have enough firepower to outscore Tom Brady and the Patriots? I don’t think so. And with Jeremy Maclin likely out for this game I believe the Patriots have to much. Pats win 24-10.
