The Warriors complete the biggest flop in sports history

by Jeff Lightsy Jr.

The 2015-16 season was one to remember for the Golden State Warriors. The set an NBA record with 73 wins during the regular season. Their best player Steph Curry became the first ever unanimous MVP of the league. They also had three players named to All-NBA teams in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green to go along with Curry. This team was the runaway favorite to win their second consecutive title and hoist the title of being the best team ever.

dgreenAs with every great team there is a thin line between being confident and overly cocky. The Warriors definitely played on the boarder of the two. And for the most part we as media members and fans let them get away with it. I don’t know how we allowed them to do so without more criticism or scrutiny,  but we did. The only real reason why we probably let them get away with being so cocky was simply because they were the best. The Warriors simply bullied the rest of the NBA throughout the entire regular season.

After getting off to the best start in NBA history (24-0) this team made a concentrated effort to break Michael Jordan’s Bulls 72-10 record. Well, the Warriors accomplished that and instead of letting their play do the talking for them, they stepped to microphones and let it be known that they felt that they were the best ever… Before the season was over.

gswWell, now the joke is on them. Because unlike the ’96 Bulls or Magic Johnson’s Showtime Lakers (A team these Warriors also said they could beat) this years Warrior squad goes home ring-less.

This record setting season is the biggest reason why I believe these Golden State Warriors are the biggest disappointment in not only NBA history, but also in the history of sports. Why you might ask. Because after snatching the OKC Thunder’s championship aspirations after being down 1-3 like a thief in the night. These same Warriors let the Cleveland Cavaliers do the same thing to them for the Championship. This includes losing games 5 and 7 at HOME!

A lot of people, including myself, thought not if but WHEN this team won the championship they would be considered the best team ever. Now, instead in my eyes they are the greatest team that never was, and the biggest flop in the history of sports.

Luckily for them there is always next year in sports but unfortunately this year was a year well wasted.
